Jeanine Doherty

Hearing Excellence is my “baby” and it was a satisfying challenge setting up a state-of-the-art clinic.  The opening in May 2010 was followed soon after by the Christchurch quakes and so managing through that has been a unique experience as a clinician and small business owner.

It is a pleasure to continue working with Sandra (for 30 years now) and also helping set the Professional course for newer graduates Katrine and Virginia. We all enjoy meeting the students, studying in the Master of Audiology course at University of Canterbury, when they attend Hearing Excellence for clinical experience.

My professional background includes too many degrees- the first two degrees being from the University of Waikato, majoring in physiological and perceptual psychology.  Then Canterbury Hospital Board invited me to attend the University of Melbourne for Audiology training and following this I moved to Christchurch. I am a mainlander by choice now.

In 2002 I became the first NZer to complete the Doctorate in Clinical Audiology (AuD) from Salus University in Pennsylvania, USA. I also have studied for two Master level degrees in Business topics, a qualification in Rehabilitation and have another degree underway in Ethics. Terms have been served on many national and international committees and boards in the field of Audiology and now also with Special Olympics International.

My pleasure comes from working with the patients who chose to come and see us at Hearing Excellence.  I have looked after many adults for over 25 years and also in the past many children who wore hearing aids.

When not at the clinic I can be found working at home - as small business owners never stop.  I love to walk on the hills or beach and entertain with family and friends - although my favourite times would be those spent hanging around in my hammock with a good book.
